Shaping Co-production Together

Join us and help shape the future of co-production in Greater Manchester

***THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED***

Last spring and summer, NHS Greater Manchester and partners from the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) held a series of workshops to explore building a shared culture of co-production. These sessions kick-started important conversations about what co-production means and how to achieve consistency across our partnership.

However, we know that truly defining co-production requires more than internal discussions—it needs the voices and experiences of everyone involved.

We’re inviting you to join us for a collaborative workshop to co-create a shared understanding of co-production that reflects the incredible work and diverse viewpoints from all sectors across Greater Manchester. Together we can define some of the action we can collectively take to embed coproduction across the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.

Details

10am-1pm, Thursday 10th April 2025, at the King's House Conference Centre

Work so far...

Read the information below to find out more about the work we have done so far to shape co-production.

Work we have done so far

The idea

Through conversations between a small number of individuals across Greater Manchester we spotted a trend that everyone was talking about co-production as the best way to engage, but everyone was doing it differently or doing something different.

We had an idea that if we could all work together, we could create a consistent, shared culture and language of co-production, meaning that everyone would know what they were getting involved in, no matter the organisation or lead team.

This led to a series of 3 workshops, and now this bigger, wider event.

The workshops

We have held a series of three shared learning workshops over the spring and summer 2024 to build some agreement and commitment. People joined us from all over the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership from health, local authorities and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

In the workshops, together we considered 4 themes.

Theme 1: Defining Co-Production

  • Co-production encompasses dialogue, power-sharing, inclusivity, and valuing lived experiences.
  • Challenges include varying definitions and lack of representation in discussions.

Theme 2: Systemic Challenges and Approaches

  • Differences in perspectives between statutory bodies and the voluntary/community sectors (VCFSE).
  • Importance of mutual understanding, language alignment, and breaking hierarchical barriers.
  • Difference between rhetoric / strategies and action

Theme 3: Case Studies and Practical Examples

  • Examples from Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Dementia United were shared.
  • Highlighted the application of co-design principles and systemic challenges like remuneration and policy alignment.

Theme 4: Building Capacity and Networks

  • Calls for a systemic change to value contributions beyond token involvement.
  • Focus on creating co-production networks and aligning them with strategic priorities.

The agreed actions

From the workshops, we agreed a series of actions and goals...

  1. We want to develop an overarching co-production approach for adoption by senior GM ICP leaders.
  2. We want to explore and address remuneration disparities to support equitable participation.
  3. We want to advocate for inclusive policies that leverage local talents and data for better outcomes.
  4. We want more voices involved, and wanted to plan a broader co-creation session post-summer, engaging diverse stakeholders.
  5. We want to align with what was already out there, including existing GM Combined Authority co-production efforts and networks.
  6. We want to support practitioners with the resources, freedom to clarify co-production goals and principles and address logistical challenges and identify missing voices.
  7. We want to develop actionable takeaways for system-wide adoption.

Come along to our Shaping Co-production Together workshop and get involved in taking these actions forward.
