Have your say about specialist cardiac surgery in Greater Manchester.

Up until that point Wythenshawe Hospital was working alongside Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) as the two hospitals, where people could have their surgery.

Under this proposal, patients would only go to Wythenshawe for their surgery, with follow-up appointments and other routine checks continuing to take place at hospitals and centres local to people's homes.

We hope that a permanent change would mean shorter wait times for patients, better outcomes and a better overall experience.

It is also hoped that it will help the service cope with future demand, which we know is increasing because of our ageing population and health inequalities across some areas of Greater Manchester.

But, before any possible change can happen, we want to know what you think.

There is lots of information below which explains in more detail why NHS GM thinks the change will improve the service.

Because of these things, we believe it is important to review how cardiac surgery services are delivered, and through this programme of change, our aim is to:

• Improve patient outcomes and safety
• Reduce differences in care between communities
• Ensure services are sustainable for the future
• Provide care as close to home as possible where appropriate, while ensuring specialist surgery is available when needed

This consultation gives patients, family members, staff and the wider general public an opportunity to share their views and help shape how services should be delivered in the future.
